Client: Heriot Watt University
Job Title: Head of Fundraising
Salary: £49,149 to £56,950 (Grade 9)
Job Type: Permanent – Full Time
Heriot-Watt is a truly distinctive and vibrant global university with five campuses across three countries, partners in 150 countries and over 30,000 students worldwide. Named International University of the Year by the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018, walking around Heriot-Watt University is like taking a trip around the world!
This Head of Fundraising role is packed full of potential. Reporting to, and supporting the Assistant Principal Development, you will lead, manage and inspire a high performing major gifts, research and stewardship team. The University has a mixed portfolio of income with ambitions to achieve a step change in fundraising, doubling its income in 2018/19. You will continue to build and develop the fundraising plan to achieve this growth, offering plenty of scope to introduce and develop new ideas, as we build momentum for our first institutional campaign in 2021 – a year in which we will proudly celebrate our bicentennial.
International fundraising is also progressing, and you will play your part by supporting the Assistant Principal Development to develop a strategy and supporting infrastructure to maximise opportunities world-wide.
A key aspect of this role is to lead and build the project and prospect pipelines for future activities and income generation targets as well as develop innovative approaches to donor stewardship. Our campaign feasibility study is planned for Spring/Summer 2019 and you will play a key role in preparations by identifying and developing a fundraising pipeline (aligned to the University’s strategy) working collaboratively with academic schools and other internal stakeholders to define targets and thereafter managing the fundraising team’s efforts to generate tailored applications and pitches to secure funds. This area of work will require a high level of influencing and negotiating skills within a complex operating context.
We are seeking someone with the drive and determination to succeed; experienced, nimble and adaptable, with outstanding communication skills, able to interact and respond to a diverse audience as well as manage and influence relations. Someone with extensive people and line management experience who can effectively manage a relatively new team to perform and achieve ambitious income targets across a range of sources and who will roll up their sleeves and lead by example.
This is an exciting time to join Heriot Watt University, to support the Assistant Principal Development and to lead and shape the fundraising team to help them make a significant contribution to the further development and success of the institution as a whole.
